The Pantone Color Institute recently announced 2019’s color of the year. This color is supposed to embody the tone of the upcoming year both visually and metaphorically. This year, Pantone chose the color 16-1546 Living Coral.

While many people will be working out ways to apply Living Coral to clothes and makeup and even home decor, we’re applying this color and its meaning to dance. No, you don’t have to worry about getting coral leotards and glitter just yet. We’re talking about expression and action.
Be Authentic
“We are seeking authentic and immersive experiences that enable connection and intimacy,” Pantone says about the experiences we will seek in 2019. Living Coral is supposed to represent this. Like real coral immersed in the sea, we should be immersing ourselves in our lives.
In 2019, immerse yourself in experiencing your dance. It is more than just exercise, flexibility, and practice. It is art! Dive headfirst into everything your art means to you and everything it helps you explore.
Be Sociable and spirited
Pantone describes the Color of the Year as, “Sociable and spirited, the engaging nature of PANTONE 16-1546 Living Coral welcomes and encourages lighthearted activity.” If there is anything more social than dance, we don’t know what it is. Dance is a language. It is an art. It is movement. No matter what the emotions behind the dance are, there is still elation behind being able to express and understand them.
This year, try to bring that social aspect of dance and the way it connects to you spiritually into everything you do from solos to group performances!
Be Natural
Based on the nature of actual living coral, the Color of the Year is connected to the ocean and the world around us. This year, Pantone encourages everyone to follow Living Coral’s lead in being our most natural and down to earth selves.
When you dance this year, try to incorporate yourself into your performances as much as you can. Work on using organic feelings to bring your dances to life and perform more fluidly and naturally.
