One of the most important parts of teaching preschool-age dancers is keeping them engaged with the class while teaching them new dance moves. A great way to do that right from the start is to begin each class with fun warm-up prompts that are imaginative and playful while also getting them ready for some dance class exercises.

Wiggle like a Snake

For this move, you can teach the dancers how to do a simple body roll, or just use it to get all the wiggles and giggles out with some slithery arm and leg movements.

Shake it Off

If you want to add some music to your warm-up, you can’t go wrong adding Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” to your playlist. Get your tiny dancers to shake it out so they’re ready to focus on that day’s class.

The Invisible Hula Hoop

A simple stretch for hips and hamstrings, have your dancers pretend they’re using a hula hoop for some circular motions. You can even include their arms and necks if you start adding more “hula hoops”.

The Bunny Hop

This one is pretty self-explanatory, but dancers love it. Ask them to hop in place, or even designate a circle for them to hop around. While they’re hopping, see if they can maintain good posture and big smiles!
