Disney is heading back to Agrabah sometime in the near future. In a Variety exclusive, Disney announced that a sequel to the live-action remake of Aladdin is currently being developed by the first film’s producers, Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, and writers John Gatins and Andrea Berloff.

We just want to know whether Will Smith, Mena Massoud, and Naomi Scott will be reprising their roles of Genie, Aladdin, and Princess Jasmine, but unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until the script is finished to find out who will be returning and what new cast members might be added.

Also in the announcement, Disney shared that, unlike the original animated Aladdin which had two straight-to-video sequels (add those to your Disney Plus queue), this sequel will make its way to theaters before likely finding a forever home in Disney Plus. The upcoming sequel is also set to tell a new story, not one based on the ideas of the previous animated sequels.

Only one of a handful of Disney live-action remakes to get a sequel, we have our fingers crossed that this one will be a treasure.
