Amelia Lisowe is a 12-year-old dancer from Arkansas. She dances at Dance Dynamics.

“…I volunteer as a buddy for the iCan dance program for special needs dancers…I love that even though we may have different abilities, that we can bond through our love of dance.”

Tell us about your dance experience!

I started dancing before I even turned 3 years old. And have never looked back. I’m trained in ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, musical theatre, lyrical, acro, and contemporary. I’ve been on a competition team since I was 5. Musical theatre is my favorite genre to perform because it combines my love of stage performing with dance. I’m currently a member of the Dance Dynamics team in Little Rock and love spending time each week training with some of my best friends!

How does dance have a positive impact on your life?

I also have some of the best teachers being my mentors not only in the dance studio, but in life. The same with the older girls on our dance team. They have taught me that being a good mentor for those younger than me is so important because there is probably always someone looking up to you, even if you don’t know it.

How do you want to use dance to have a positive impact on your community?

I want to continue to spread our family motto to everyone in my community. I want to continue to use dance to bridge the gap. Whether I am bridging the gap with an older generation who may not have many visitors or bridging the gap with a community of peers who don’t have the same abilities as I do, showing everyone that we can come together and smile through dance is important to me.
