New York City is the home of some of the world’s best theater and live performances both on and off Broadway. More than a year after lockdown and COVID-19 safety precautions shut the doors on live performances, NYC is slowly opening back up.

As of last week, NYC performing arts venues can host audiences at 33 percent capacity–up to 100 people indoors or 200 people outdoors or 500 people with proof of a negative Covid-19 test or immunization from all attendees. Not all theaters and performance venues are jumping to post their live schedules, though. The restrictions may not be sustainable for every venue, and they’re brand new.

Among the venues and shows opening now are NYC comedy clubs like Stand Up NY and The Comedy Cellar and the off-Broadway production The Office! A Musical Parody. With the changes just rolling out, we hope to see even more venues sharing their plans for the rest of the year. More productions might return to live theater as we inch closer to summer and outdoor performances are more possible.
