The latest way to groove and get down via video game isn’t the next Just Dance hit. Instead, it’s a VR experience curated for the Oculus Quest and Oculus Rift consoles. Dance Central VR, developed by the creators of the Rock Band and the original Dance Central games for Xbox and Xbox 360, brings you under the VR headset and into the world of dance clubs. There you can dance with non-player characters (NPCs) for a few minutes at a time or spend hours making your way around the club to find out what other dancers are up to.
Even though the game isn’t out yet, those that have had a sneak peek at the game’s beta version note that dancing is the focus, but there’s more to get excited about. Meeting characters and dancing with them allows you to unlock new ways to personalize the game including wardrobe options, cell phone skins, and even dialogue for texting the characters.
That’s right, texting.
Put your phone down for a moment to play Dance Central VR, and you’ll soon find a new host of friends vying for your digital attention. NPCs will send you texts. Some of them might even share their latest dance club selfie with you. Joining in on multiplayer lobbies also gives you access to other players to dance battle or perform alongside.
The game even features a studio where you can break down songs and practice your moves. The game will feature 32 songs when it releases including the talent of Bruno Mars, Cardi B, and more.
Lucky for dancers that get wait to get moving, Dance Central VR will be available for Oculus Quest and Rift on May 21, so there it won’t be long before you get to try it yourself.
