This week Disney+ announced the premiere date for a new original docuseries following the members of the Detroit Youth Choir. Choir follows the kids that make up the choir. “Through their eyes, we experience the highs and lows of life growing up in Detroit, navigating the challenges of balancing family, school, and athletics, all while pursuing their dreams of taking their talents to the next level and performing on one of the world’s biggest stages,” Disney+ said in a press release.

The members of the Detroit Youth Choir range from 8 to 18 years old and face are not only trying to prove themselves as vocal performers but also “navigating the challenges of balancing family, school, and athletics, all while pursuing their dreams of taking their talents to the next level.” The group has previously appeared on America’s Got Talent and America’s Got Talent All Stars where they earned the “Golden Buzzer” twice.

The Detroit Youth Choir is a non-profit led by Artistic Director Anthony White who not only pushes the group to their best performances but also works to create a space where the students can develop their extracurricular resumes and increase their odds of going to college. In an interview with The Detroit News earlier this year, Anthony White and the group’s Program Manager Daniel Valentine shared the importance of confidence and making space for any student who wants a chance in the arts. Choir will show us how that space is made and the impact it has on the students who participate.

Choir will premiere on Disney+ on January 31. All six episodes of the series will be available upon premiering.
