Wicked fans, it’s time to celebrate! We’re one step closer to Oz with the latest casting announcement for the film adaptation of the classic musical. Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo are Glinda and Elphaba!

Long time Wicked superfan (and Glinda stan) Ariana Grande and Broadway star Cynthia Erivo will be defying gravity and capturing our hearts as our two favorite musical witches in the upcoming Universal Pictures movie musical adaptation of Wicked.

In recent Instagram posts, Ariana and Cynthia celebrated their new roles with their reactions to their casting confirmations and sweet notes to each other.

Ariana shared a picture of a pink bouquet with a card that read, “‘Pink Goes Good With Green’ Congratulations Miss A, the part was made for you, I look forward to sharing this musical journey with you. Love, Cynthia.”

The Broadway star also received flowers from her new co-star. “Dear Cynthia, Honored doesn’t even begin to cover it. I cannot wait to hug you. See you in Oz. All my love, Ari,” Ariana wrote in her note with a bouquet of flowers (also pink!).

Both stars have performed iconic songs from the musical before but in opposite roles. Ariana performed “The Wizard and I” (and Elphaba favorite) at Wicked‘s fifteenth-anniversary concert on NBC. Cynthia took on Glinda’s “Thank Goodness” in PBS’ concert special this year. We can’t wait to see how their collaboration makes these the perfect blend of classic and new as they put their own spins on these beloved characters!

For now, there aren’t any set days for this film, but it looks like production will begin next summer. We’re a ways away from our trip to Oz!
