A dancer’s life is constantly on the go. Running from class to practice to plans with friends requires focus and organization. Scrolling social media can sneak its way into the in-between of all your plans and become a distraction from that focus. A social media detox can be an excellent way to reset your mind and thoughts, inspire new ideas, and step outside of a screen for a bit. Here is the only guide that you’ll need to do a social media detox for the new year.

Why You Should Think About Doing a Social Media Detox

Less Comparison

It is so simple to go onto social media and start comparing your looks, life, and habits to the people you see in your feeds. A detox will give you a brain break from the constant comparison and a chance to build a healthier mindset.

More Time

The endless scrolling on social media is REAL. It can quickly go from five minutes to an hour. Taking a serious a break allows you to have more time in your day for things that matter. You can focus more on dancing, hanging out with friends and family, and catching up on sleep.

How to Have a Successful Social Media Detox

Set Clear Goals

Write down a plan of what you hope to achieve from your social media detox. How long do you want it to last? Is it every social media app? What do you hope to get out of it? For example, “I want to spend more time focusing on dance,” or “I am starting to compare myself too much.”

Logging Off

The next step is the most important. Decide if you want to just log out of the apps or temporarily delete them. If you are someone who thinks you might be tempted to log back in, then consider deleting them to remove that temptation.

Time Fillers

You are going to have more free time on your hands, so start thinking of how you may want to fill it. Boredom is a quick way to lose motivation and end your detox early. Pick up a new hobby, hang out more with friends, or maybe try something you always wish you had time for.

Appreciate the Benefits

Creativity Comes More Naturally

Without constantly comparing your ideas to everyone else’s, you can open new doors for your creativity to shine.

More Sleep and Energy

Instead of scrolling before bed, maybe you can wind down an easier way such as reading a book.

Better Focus

Removing distractions that come with social media allows you to stay focused on what you are trying to achieve.

A social media detox might not work the same way for everybody, but consider giving it a shot for this new year.
