“[through dance] I have learned to work together with others, as well as develop self discipline which has carried over into my education and personal life.”

Tell us about your dance experience!

I have been dancing since I was 5 years old. I started competing at 7 years old. While competing, my team and I won multiple awards including the Crystal Award from Showstopper’s competition. I have also assisted in teaching younger dancers in a class setting for two years.

How does dance have a positive impact on your life?

I have learned to work together with others, as well as develop self-discipline which has carried over into my education and personal life. I have learned that being part of a team, I have to put others ahead of myself to make the routine successful. More importantly, dance gives me and other dancers a safe harbor to express our feelings and emotions in a positive way.

How do you want to use dance to have a positive impact on your community?

I want others to see dance as an inspiration to have fun. It can allow people to exercise in a fun way as well as develop positive social skills.
