This week, NBC’s World of Dance returned for its third season, and while many of our favorite features of the show are still there, a few changes have been made. One of the most notable changes is that Jenna Dewan is not hosting Season 3, though she may return as a mentor later in the season.
With Dewan’s YouTube Red Original Step Up: High Water Season 2 premiering March 20, a starring role in the upcoming romantic drama Berlin, I love You, AND a book (Gracefully You: How to Live Your Best Life Every Day) hitting stores in October, her schedule is packed. It’s no wonder we won’t be seeing her on stage this season.
Despite initial plans to go without a host in Dewan’s absence, Season 3 of NBC’s World of Dance premiered this week with a brand new face. Access Live host Scott Evans is stepping into the role. Evans has also been a news anchor and even an on-court host for the Indiana Pacers and the WNBA’s Indiana Fever. He’s a master host, but not a dancer.
While Dewan took on the role of mentor and backstage adviser during the show, we didn’t see much of Scott Evans in the first episode. Like the judges, he burst onto the stage to introduce himself, but that was most of his role in the much awaited season three debut.
Evans’ lack of a dance background doesn’t seem to concern the judges. In an interview with Parade, Derek Hough said that the new dynamic works out for the audience. “Because he doesn’t have a dance background, he’s the voice of the audience. If he’s asking a question, it’s something that the audience might ask. So, he’s as curious as anybody at home watching would be, which I think is helpful.”
Well, Evans has an entire season of questions ahead of him, and with Jenna Dewan’s blessing and a comedic attitude, he’s sure to win the audience over. Fingers crossed we get to see more of him when the show returns for its second episode of the season on Sunday, March 2, at 8/7c.
