On Tuesday, actors Uzo Aduba and Darren Criss announced the 2026 Tony Award nominees.

The competition feels fiercer than ever, with a smaller pool of musicals this season than in previous years. (The New York Times reports concerning changes in Broadway’s balance of musicals and plays as production costs continue to rise.) So, while we’re planning our list of summer musicals and plays to support, we’re browsing the nominees for standout productions. Of the 11 musicals, The Lost Boys and Schmigadoon! stood apart, earning 12 nominations each. They were in good company with the revival of Ragtime, which has 11 nominations.

This year’s celebration of Broadway excellence will take place on Sunday, June 7 at Radio City Musical Hall. Broadway songwriter and pop icon P!NK will host the ceremony. More details about the 79th Annual Tony Awards are forthcoming.
