While we waited to find out who would be taking home Best Picture and before the on-stage drama that took the Oscars by storm, celebrities took the red carpet to show off their takes on formal, floor-length gowns. This year, many looks went beyond the floor with trailing gowns of all kinds making their way down the carpet. Even though these voluminous skirts and trains are following gracefully behind, these looks are not a drag.
Zuri Hall
One of many pale pink looks on the red carpet, Zuri Hall made her walk in a rose-covered gown with big ruffles and layers of fabric that made her look like she was dressed in giant rose petals.
Jessica Betts
Niecy Nash walked the red carpet with his wife Jessica Betts who brought a bold hot pink look to the red carpet. Jessica’s dress featured a dramatic ruffled top balanced out by a gorgeous train.
Amy Forsyth
The carpet might have been red with jealousy as Amy Forsyth made her way down. Amy came to the Oscars in a ruffled one-shoulder look in a bright red.
Jessica Chastain
Taking the ruffles to the bottom of this gown, Jessica Chastain floated down the red carpet in a shimmery purple and gold look.
Venus Williams
Venus Williams wore a simple silhouette with a subdued train to the red carpet, leaving the silver accents around the bodice and shoulders to bring some extra drama to her look.
Jada Pinkett Smith
Probably the biggest dress of the night, Jada Pinkett Smith’s emerald green gown featured a voluminous crinkled skirt. Her dress wasn’t the only big thing about this look. Jada’s earrings were also large, statement flowers. This couture gown was all about making a statement.
Zendaya
Simple and elegant, Zendaya’s looks featured a high-cropped button-up with half sleeves and a shining silver skirt with a fantastic train.
Megan Thee Stallion
Megan Thee Stallion’s gown was definitely one of the night’s top looks. Her blue, structured ruffle dress made it look as though she had tamed a piece of the ocean for this stunning mermaid ensemble.
Billie Eilish
Rocking her standard Gucci, Billie Eilish wore a fantastic gothic ruffle gown to the Oscars, a direct contrast to her pastel old Hollywood look from last year’s Met Gala, this look was perfect for her “No Time to Die” performance later in the evening.
H.E.R.
Breaking the floor-length gown “rule,” H.E.R. arrived in a bright chartreuse mini dress with a folded over bodice that transitioned into a voluminous cape train. Talk about a wow!
