Mickey and Minnie are in the Ballroom!: “DWTS” Full Recap

By Veronica Good

October 18, 2023

This week, the ballroom celebrated 100 years of Disney magic. The stars made their way to the floor for a prop-filled performance of “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” from Disney’s Encanto. The opening number was choreographed by Christopher Scott.

The Highlights

Mauricio and Emma

Coming back from a low point in week two, Mauricio and Emma wanted to bring “the magic of Mickey” into the ballroom through pasodoble. “I didn’t know I needed magical pasodoble fingers, but I do, and I loved it,” Derek said as the judges praised Mauricio’s work this week.

Score: 19/30

Mira and Gleb

Hello, Cinderella! After receiving a lot of character feedback from Carrie Ann, Mira took on a princess role for a classical waltz. Leaving it all (and a glass slipper) on the ballroom floor, this duo earned high compliments from Carrie Ann who said Mira had “queen energy.”

Score: 21/30

Barry and Peta

If anyone loves a throwback, it’s Barry! This week, he and Peta brought Lady and the Tramp to the floor with a jazz routine. Carrie Ann said this was Barry’s best dance so far despite a few mistakes. Both she and Derek shared that they enjoyed his performances and character.

Score: 18/30

Jason and Daniella

One of the most successful performers so far this season, Jason ballroom danced for the first time this week in an Aladdin-inspired foxtrot. “It’s so great to see you becoming a dancer before our very eyes,” Derek said. Bruno thought their dreamy performance was controlled and regal.

Score: 24/30

Lele and Brandon

Lele wasn’t happy with her performance during Motown Night last week. She and Brandon wanted to use their romantic The Lion King rumba to bring positivity to Lele’s outlook. “We are in business! You corrected everything I told you,” Bruno said praising Lele’s moves.

Score: 22/30

Alyson and Sasha

Who better to bring Beauty and the Beast to DWTS than Alyson? Alyson was on fire as Lumiere in her jazz routine this week. Carrie Ann loved Alyson’s animation but wanted to make sure she wasn’t losing musicality. Bruno also encouraged her to be more exact.

Score: 18/30

Harry and Rylee

Harry was hoping he had a friend in the judges this week as he and Rylee quickstepped their way through the world of Toy Story. After weeks of struggling to find his place in dance, Harry received excited praise from the judges about his excitement and movement.

Score: 21/30

Xochitl and Val

Getting the sillies out for a serious pasodoble to “Un Poco Loco” from Coco, Xochitl and Val continued to impress the judges. Bruno was excited to see a vibrant and character-driven pasodoble that was quick and put together. Carrie Ann and Bruno agreed.

Score: 27/30

Adrian and Britt

Disney/Eric McCandless

Unused to being anything but the best, Adrian needed to get his head in the game to translate his athletic skills to dance. He and Britt worked on being graceful for their Viennese waltz. Carrie Ann called their performance “the most touching dance of the night,” and all of the judges were excited to see Adrian making such big changes.

Score: 21/30

Ariana and Pasha

Every move is a moment in contemporary, so Ariana had to lean how to bring the moves and emotions together in a dance from Frozen II. “I just love the way the two of you, that you work the camera,” Derek said ahead of Bruno’s praise of this couple’s storytelling.

Score: 25/30

Charity and Artem

Did someone hear a shell phone? Charity and Artem went under the sea for the final dance of the night. Ending on a princess waltz that brought all the magic of the night together. Carrie Ann loved Charity’s version of Ariel, and Derek was happy to see her consistent improvement and success on the floor.

Score: 24/30
