The seasons are changing! The atmosphere, weather, and our schedules are making the shift from summer into fall. It’s time to start adjusting our fashion, too, but in this in-between, we can experiment with styles that bridge the gap between summer and fall clothing.
Summer doesn’t technically end until late September, but fall is creeping into the early mornings and late evenings! It’s the perfect moment to style core outfits that can move between seasons. Vogue is all about the icons of each season’s style, saying, ” Each season there are It items that define the moment—those buzzy pieces that lead the trends and style enthusiasts can’t wait to get their hands on.” Let’s start with this season’s fashion faves as we look for style inspiration.
OOTD 1: Dreaming in Denim
When summer fashion turns into fall fashion, there are a few staple pieces that always work! One of my favorites is denim. As a global textile, denim is everywhere in fashion. This fabric is a true classic appearing on the runway, in stores, and all over my social media fashion feed! It’s really no surprise. Denim can be styled in so many unique ways.
For this summer/fall outfit of the day, I styled a maxi denim skirt, a piece that is fabulous for either season. Using the texture of denim as further inspiration, I paired the skirt with a printed gray tee, detailed with bold letters of a place I traveled to this summer. Fall is all about being cozy, and there’s nothing as warm as good memories. Find a t-shirt or tank to pair with your denim that showcases a print that means something to you.
While we lean toward fall, bring your color palette down. Vogue says, “…there’s something to be said about slipping into something a bit more muted and relaxed.” Mix and match colors that you like to explore the denim trend as we move between warm late summer days and the cool breezes of early fall.
OOTD 2: Best of Both Worlds
Today’s season combo is summer meets fall in style and function. Combining a breezy dress with sneakers, we can embrace a warm day while staying grounded and functional for the new season. This is a chic outfit arrangement with the spirit of summer and the feeling of fall. We love a seasonal remix, and Vogue agrees. “You don’t need a special occasion to bring this kind of fun into your look,” they say of bold summer prints.
I paired a striped summer maxi dress with neutral fall-coded Reebok sneakers. Worn together, this is a fashion juxtaposition that just works. (We love a wrong shoe trend moment.)
Balance out the seasonal styles with a color that compliments them both. I accessorized with gold hoop earrings and a few shimmer necklaces. Jewelry pieces might seem like extras, but they can be staple pieces in your summer-to-fall outfits. Dress for the day you want with your favorite elements from each season.
OOTD 3: Très Sportif
Hello, activewear! The Paris 2024 Olympic Games set the tone for summer. British Vogue called it the “Summer of sport,” using the games as “the perfect excuse to embrace the athletic mood that has permeated the runways in recent seasons.” From polos and tennis skirts to graphic tees and sporty matching sets, activewear has become a transitional style that trends all summer long and moves seamlessly into fall. As Vogue says, “Have no fear, Summer’s not over yet!”
For this fun OOTD, I worked with monochromatic colors and sporty chic vibes. Pairing lime green leggings with a matching tank top, a matching set is perfect for creating a dynamic style. Layering for cooler weather, a white sweatshirt, socks, and sneakers complete the look without distracting from the statement color.
Vogue calls this intersection between fashion and sportswear is a “carefree summer look.” From coffee hangs to training workouts to dance class to running fun errands, you can create stylish outfits that are versatile enough to tackle your entire day. With so many activewear brands popping up, there is more sportswear than ever to choose from, so we have plenty of options for transitioning this trend into fall aesthetics.
Have fun styling outfits you love! With your “End of Summer” playlist on repeat, soak up the last of the warm weather, season fashions, and dancing days, and look forward to fall.
