The holiday season is a magical time filled with laughter, love, and good spirits. But as a dancer, it can also feel busy and overwhelming sometimes. Between rehearsals, performances, school stress, and family plans, December can fly by before you even realize it. Even amongst the chaos, the holiday season can be the perfect time to slow down and make some memories, whether it is with family, friends, or sharing your love for dance.
Create a Holiday Dance Tradition
Traditions don’t need to be elaborate or complicated for them to bring joy and be memorable. The holidays are the perfect opportunity to share your love for dance. So, why not combine your passions with the holiday spirit? Learn a festive combo every December, have a fun dance party in festive pajamas, or just do something fun to celebrate with friends. A tradition is whatever you want it to be! This will give you something to look forward to every year to create more meaningful memories.
Dance for Fun, Not Just Improving
During the year, dance can sometimes feel overwhelming with rehearsals, performances, and competitions. The holidays are the perfect chance to dance simply because you love it. It is not about impressing anyone! Put on some of your favorite songs, and move however your body wants to. Dancing freely will remind you why you started dancing in the first place, and that will keep your spark for it going.
Spend Intentional Time with Your Dance Community
Your dance friends understand things about you that others just can’t. That is why it is so important to cherish and enjoy that community. Make time to spend with them outside of just practice. Get a fun drink at your favorite cafe, go shopping, or see a movie. These moments will create memories that last outside of dance.
Give Back Through Dance
The holidays are the perfect time to give back in any way that you can. And what better way to do that than through something you love doing? Volunteer to perform at a resident home or hospital, help out younger dancers at a studio, or teach a free combo. Dance has the power to help someone express their feelings, and you never know who could need that right now. Giving back will be something you will remember doing forever.
