The first Monday in May is a fashion holiday of style significance. While designers, artists, and stars make history on the red carpet (and paparazzi and fashion enthusiasts eagerly capture the moment), the Met Gala raises money for the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The famous steps of the museum, usually crowded with tourists and museum-goers, become a real runway of inspiration and beauty.

A gala of stars, this year’s Met exhibition is Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, a whimsical, impressionist look at fashion that inspired the Met Gala 2024 dress code “The Garden of Time.” The exhibition draws on fashion from four centuries tied together by a nature theme. It’s no wonder then that the fashion on the red carpet was blooming. Vogue said, “Florals, unsurprisingly, proved to be the breakout look of the night. Celebrities transformed into high-fashion bouquets in a variety of ways.”

Let’s look at five designs that brought the red carpet to life.

Kelsea Ballerini

Theme queen Kelsea Ballerini achieved “The Garden of Time” look in a Michael Kors gown. The soft pink and orange flower details of the dress were hand-sewn to create this floral daydream. It’s all in the details, and Kelsea even had nail art to match her dress. Amazing!

Zendaya

Look out! Superstar and Met Gala 2024 Co-Chair coming through! A garden of fashion all in a dress—or two—Zendaya rocked not one but two completely unique outfits on the Met Gala red carpet this year. Her first gown was a metallic blue mermaid silhouette style with hand-painted accents by Maison Margiela’s John Galliano complimented by an ultra-fierce headpiece by Stephen Jones.

For her second look of the night, Zendaya reappeared in a vintage couture Givenchy gown. Vogue reported that the look was a never-before-worn item from Givenchy’s special Spring 1996 (the same year Zendaya was born!).

Karlie Kloss

Supermodel Karlie Kloss graced the Met runway in a fully embellished rhinestone dress by Swarovski. This pink mermaid look sparkled as she walked. The one-of-a-kind gown was designed by Swarovski Creative Director Giovanna Engelbert. In this fashionably imaginative glamor look, Karlie looked like she stepped right out of a fairytale.

Gigi Hadid

This is fashion at its finest. Gigi Hadid wore a custom Thom Browne corset gown to the Met Gala this year. Designer Thom Brown shared that the dress has over two million micro bugle beads and features many sweet 3D rose appliques. It took over 13,500 hours of craftsmanship to create. This dress is sophisticated, chic, and on theme. The flowers cascade off the dress and into the spotlight.

Ariana Grande

Entering into a realm of fashion wonder at the Met Gala, Ariana Grande stepped out on the Met Gala steps in a Lowe dress inspired by Mother of Pearl. She shimmered and shined making a fashion statement! Ariana’s makeup look was done completely with her line R.E.M. Beauty. Ari also surprised everyone as the guest performer at this year’s gala.
