Tell us about your dance experience!

Starting at the age of 2, I have loved dance ever since. I have lived in three different states, so getting perspectives with different regions and studios has been very rewarding. My favorite styles are ballet and contemporary which I train in for about 24 hours a week including other styles as well. I go to a performing arts school, so being able to learn about the history and education of dance while practicing it at my studio has been very helpful in improving my dance. I go to competitions and conventions throughout the year as well as ballet competitions where I have a variation and a solo. I try to be as versatile as possible because I know it will help me in the long run with my future career. I have gotten top five in Break the Floor competitions for my solo, second place for my solo at YAGP, and many class and best dancer scholarships. I also represent a California photographer and stretch it out ladder.

How does dance have a positive impact on your life?

Dance has a positive impact in my life because it helps me let go and not think about my current life and all the bad thoughts that go in my head. I tend to be very hard on myself, but breaking through that and dancing with supportive friends is so rewarding and good for my mental health. It helps me learn discipline and our director is very important about applying these things to our own life.

How do you want to use dance to have a positive impact on your community?

I want to use dance to have a positive impact on my community so people can learn to have fun sometimes and not take life so seriously. I think, with our whole world shifting and people having many beliefs and opinions about things, we tend to be harsh on ourselves and others. With dance being brought to our community we can bring all different people together and have a good time as one.
