Tell us about your dance experience!
I’ve been dancing since I was three years old, the moment I put my ballet outfit on I knew I would stick with it. I used to go to nutcrackers, performances, etc all the time. I was amazed by the talent and the sparkling costumes. I started with recital dance, and my dance teacher told the studio director that I needed to audition for competitive dance, not knowing what it was or that it would become my favorite thing to do. I am 16 now and couldn’t thank my teacher at the time enough for bringing me into the best sport and best decision I’ve ever made.
How does dance have a positive impact on your life?
Dance is always there for me, I am instantly in a better mood when I step into the studio. Why wouldn’t I be? I get to see all my best friends and all my teachers, I get to pour my heart out in the studio during combinations! Everything I do centers around dance. I often write about it in school. My summer/winter vacations are planned around my dance practices. Even sometimes the vacations are for dance! Dance has brought me everything I need and more, and for that, it positively affects my life and I’m so grateful to have found it!
How do you want to use dance to have a positive impact on your community?
I’ve done many volunteer projects with dance, I used to perform a Nutcracker as well as competition routines at a local nursing home, it makes me smile when they enjoy our shows. I also volunteer at a local studio down the street. They have been through many tragic events, and all the girls want to do is dance, so my best friend and I spend our time with them by learning fun combos, and teaching proper technique!
