Matthew Morrison is leaving So You Think You Can Dance. Even though we’re only a few weeks into the return of Fox’s dance competition show, we’re already about to see a change in the judges.

When the show returned for its heavily delayed 17th season a few weeks ago, the “refreshed” show came with a new panel of judges. Former contestant and guest judge Stephen “tWitch” Boss returned to the show along with new judges JoJo Siwa and Matthew Morrison. As the auditions episodes have come out each week, the new panel seemed to be delivering on a lot of what we loved about previous formats of the show, excitement, encouragement, dance-heavy critiques, and humor!

Us Weekly reported last week that after the auditions, we’ll be seeing a new face at the desk! Matthew Morrison told Us “Having the opportunity to be a judge on So You Think You Can Dance was an incredible honor for me,” the Glee alum, 43, tells Us in a statement. “Therefore, it is my deepest regret to inform you that I will be leaving the show.

“After filming the audition rounds for the show and completing the selection of the 12 finalists, I did not follow competition production protocols, preventing me from being able to judge the competition fairly. I cannot apologize enough to all involved and I will be watching alongside you all on what I know will be one of the best seasons yet.”

Us stated that a source revealed Matthew’s reason for leaving the show is the result of a “minor infraction.” Details about what SYTYCD‘s competition production protocols are or what rule he might have broken aren’t clear.

Once the show moves past the auditions and into the main competition where the Top 12 will compete for the judges’ approval and America’s vote, a new judge will take the seat at the end of the desk. Matthew is leaving before we really got to know his judging style, but we’re eager to see who might be filling his spot for the rest of the season.

So You Think You Can Dance season 17 airs on FOX Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET.
