This Sunday, the 92nd Annual Academy Awards were hosted at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California. Janelle Monáe opened the Oscars with a rendition of the theme from Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood which quickly turned into her own song, “Come Alive (The War of the Roses).” Billie Eilish also performed, accompanied by her brother Finneas, The Beatles’ “Yesterday” during the In Memorian section of the program.
Notable wins during the night include Parasite, the first South Koren film nominated for an Oscar, which took home the award for Best Picture–the first foreign language film to win the title–as well as Best Director, Best International Feature Film, and Best Original Screenplay. Taika Waititi has become the first indigenous New Zealander to win an Oscar for Jojo Rabbit. 1917 won three awards for visual effects, cinematography and sound mixing.
