I’ve been “sole searching,” and I think new dance shoes are calling my name, but I don”t know where to start! I take jazz, tap, ballet, and I’m going to take pointe soon. Any tips?
Nice mix! For jazz, you’ll want something with a split sole for flexibility and either leather or canvas for durability. Make suer they allow you to move and turn easily.

Got it! And tap?
For tap, the shoe needs to be snug to your foot, but still comfy. The metal taps should hit the floor just right for clear sound. Leather uppers and are great for durability, but make sure the sole has enough grip without being too stiff.
Love it. How about ballet? I’ve heard there are different types of slippers.

You’ve got options! Canvas is lightweight and stretches, while leather is more durable and helps build strength in your feet. Ballet slippers should fit like a glove—snug but not tight. Look for a full sole if you’re still building foot strength or a split sole for more advanced technique.
I definitely need more support with ballet! What about pointe? I’m hoping to start that soon.
Pointe shoes are a whole other level! You’ll need a perfect fit to avoid injury. Make sure the box supports your toes and that the shank matches your foot’s strength. And don’t forget to get fitted by a professional to make sure they’re just right.

Awesome. Any advice for general comfort?
For any dance shoe, comfort is key. You might want to look for shoes with extra padding or add insoles if you need extra cushioning, especially for long practices. Break the in gradually to avoid blisters.
Good call! Anything else?
Just keep in mind that dance shoes wear out faster that regular shoes, especially if you’re dancing a lot. So listen to your feet—if you shoes are losing their shape or grip, it’s time to replace them!
Perfect! Time to hit the dance store!
