“I want to use dance to have an impact on my community by developing a dance scholarship to offer to less fortunate kids so that they can have the opportunity to dance as well.”

Tell us about your dance experience!

I started dancing at the age of 2 at my studio. I started out just taking one class at a time until I was placed on our petite company team at the age of 8. I wasn’t the best when I was little. I was back row for my first couple of years. I just kept trying and taking more classes because I LOVED it so much. I enrolled in our studio’s Pre-professional ballet program at the age of 10. That’s when my technique started to improve and my confidence grew as well. I currently train around 35-40 hours per week in all styles of dance including ballet, jazz, hip hop, ballroom, lyrical, and contemporary. I tried out for the role of “Clara” in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular this year and made it to the very final cut. Such an amazing experience to get to travel to New York City and dance with such amazing girls from around the country.

How does dance have a positive impact on your life?

Dance has taught me SO much, beyond just dancing. I am so organized and always prepared. I arrive early and I am never ever late. I excel in school because I am focused and driven. Dance has given me the confidence to stand out in a crowd and to not care what others think about me. It has also taught me to be positive and encouraging to others because that is how I want to be treated as a dancer. Dance has provided me so many opportunities to travel and see the world, introduced me to lifelong friends and teachers and has just made me the person I am today.

How do you want to use dance to have a positive impact on your community?

I want to use dance to have an impact on my community by developing a dance scholarship to offer to less fortunate kids so that they can have the opportunity to dance as well. Dance is so expensive and my parents work so hard to afford for me to dance at the level I dance at. I would love to find ways to help out a dancer in need to find training opportunities within my area to experience some of the things I have been able to experience.
