When it comes to dance, what you wear is more than clothes. Dancewear gives you the freedom to move your body and express yourself while contributing to the aesthetic of your dancing. Like all fashion, dancewear goes through trends. (Notice we aren’t wearing 1800s masquerade attire on the dance floor lately.) The latest trends in dancewear focus on the bright and the bold with interest added from textures and details that blend throwback styles with modern aesthetics.

Colors and Patterns

Being bold

Black and neutral-colored clothes are a nice comfort zone, but it can be nice to switch it up too! Bright colors like hot pink, neon yellow, royal blue, and bright orange help you to stand out such as hot pink, neon yellow, royal blue, and bright orange are becoming more and more popular in the dance world this year. And if wearing a full neon set is too bold for you, neon accents are always an option. Rock a neon top with black bottoms.

Fun with Patterns

Florals, cheetah print, stars, if you are looking for something with a bit of fun then try reaching for patterned leggings or sports bras.

Creating texture

Mesh

Using mesh is a great way to add texture to your look with a breathable and easy-to-move fabric—always a bonus when dancing. It comes in many different colors and can be such a cute accent on the side of leggings, the back of a sports bra, or on a leotard.

Velvet Comeback

This year, velvet has made such a comeback in the fashion world. The classic velour tracksuit is in, but it has also made its comeback in the dance world. A velvet leotard provides a slick and sleek look and maximum comfort throughout the day.

Coordination and Layering

Matching Sets

Matching sets have been popular for quite some time. However, they are still popular right now. Two-piece sets are easy to throw on for classes like contemporary or jazz. They make you look put together with minimum effort, it is a win-win.

Layering for the Win

Shrugs, leg warmers, and cropped sweaters provide extra warmth for the colder seasons while also making a fashion statement.

It’s All About the Back

Strappy Backs

Strappy backs are trending for sports bras, tank tops, and leotards. For good reason too, they look super cute and are more breathable. There are so many unique options and styles out there. Plus they add a cool effect to your movement when you are dancing.

Cutouts and Keyholes

Cutouts and keyholes can be a cute addition to a more simple piece of dancewear, and it doesn’t take away from the practicality of the piece either.
