Last night, all of our favorite stars from the past year’s most iconic TV shows and movies gathered at the MTV Movie & TV Awards to celebrate their art and incredible success. Some obvious favorites appearing in the lineup were Riverdale, Stranger Things, and Black Panther, but until the awards were given out, it was hard to know who the votes would send home with the Golden Popcorn.

Despite the abundance of love shown for each nominee, it’s no surprise that Black Panther and Stranger Things stole the show. Black Panther broke several national and worldwide records during its incredible run in the box office including biggest solo superhero movie ever on a worldwide scale. Last night, the box office hit took home the award for Best Movie. Chadwick Boseman was also awarded Best Performance in a Movie and Best Hero for his role as T’Challa in the movie. It’s only fitting then that Michael B. Jordan received the Golden Popcorn for his role as N’Jadaka. Even with all of this success, Wonder Woman still managed to take home the award for Best Fight for Wonder Woman’s battle with the German soldiers.

Netflix’s hit sci-fi drama Stranger Things took on the TV show categories with the same success. The show’s dramatic second season led it to the Golden Popcorn for Best Show, and of course, fan favorite Millie Bobbie Brown was awarded Best Performance in a Show for her role as Eleven. Millie and her co-star Finn Wolfhard also earned the show the award for Best Musical Moment for Mike and Eleven’s dance to “Every Breath You Take” while Noah Schnapp was awarded Most Frightened Performance for his role as Will Byers. Finn Wolfhard wasn’t only earning awards with the Stranger Things cast, he joined his IT co-stars to accept the award for Best On-Screen Team.

Other awards from the night included Best Kiss awarded to Nick Robinson and Keiynan Lonsdale for their roles as Simon and Bram in Love, Simon, Best Comedic Performance awarded to Tiffany Haddish for her role in Girls Trip, and Scene Stealer awarded to Riverdale favorite Madelaine Petsch for her role as Cheryl Blossom. Best Music Documentary went to Lady Gaga’s Gaga: Five Foot Two while Best Reality Series/Franchise unsurprisingly went to Keeping Up With the Kardashians.
