From our most listened songs of 2022 to the showstopping choreography we danced to the greatest fashion trends of the last year, it’s fun to look back, rewind, and reflect on our greatest moments. We have to remember the awesome things we created in 2022 before we begin debuting our 2023 styles.

A fabulous year in fashion, 2022 saw a lot of fashion trends come and go, from bold colors to full-out Y2K fashion. Micro miniskirts, oversized blazers, and all things shimmering and shiny were just some of the things floating around wardrobes, runways, and red carpets. Fashion is always changing, and with a new year upon us, I want to take a moment to revisit a few of the standout fashion trends of the last year.

“Fashion is a buffet and we want to try a little bit of this and a little bit of that, mixing comfort with the surreal, basic with the bold.”

#BalletCore

I love any chance to combine two of my biggest passions, dance and fashion. When this ballet-specific trend flourished in 2022, in the fashion industry, on TV shows, and on Fashion Week runways, I was arabesque-ing and grand jeté-ing the day away. Hello, #BalletCore!

Some may call this a style trend, but for a classically trained ballerina like me, this is my daily style! Refinery29 says, “The #BalletCore aesthetic is inspired by the silhouettes and styles worn by ballerinas both on stage and in the rehearsal studio.” This trend brings dance class staples like bodysuits, wrap cardigans, leg warmers, scrunchies, tulle skirts, pastels, and more to your wardrobe. It is an outfit style that is beautiful, comfortable, and totally danceable. The fashion world has taken to ballet with #BalletCore holding over 200 million views on TikTok.

“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.”

Coco Chanel

The best part of this trend is that it is an accessible and low-effort look. It is so cool to see how everyone approaches #BalletCore differently to make it match their personal style. Prima Ballerina and choreographer Natalia Makarova said it beautifully, “A real ballerina must fill her space with her own personality.” This quote is so true in the artistry of dancing ballet steps and in styling your next favorite outfit. Sparkle your own way! We are all uniquely beautiful. The connection between ballet and fashion is extraordinary, and more ballet fashion is definitely a 2023 resolution to keep!

Shining Styles

Sparkle in style! This trend is nothing if not timeless. We don’t have to leave our sparkles in the past. Let’s shimmer and shine into 2023. Harper’s Bazaar Digital Fashion/Features Director Kerry Pieri says on shiny fashion, “Labels from Celine to Carolina Herrera and Coperni are embracing high shine. From maxi skirts to minidresses, these looks call for a dance floor moment—or five.”

“Fashion is a language that creates itself in clothes to interpret reality.”

Karl Lagerfeld

Whether it’s clothes, shoes, jewelry, or accessories, j’adore beaucoup de la brillance! (“I love a lot of shine” in French!) What’s not to love about a diamond-dusted look or and outfit sprinkled with sparkles? Sequins, sparkles, and glitter, oh my! Adding a little sparkle to your outfit is an instant level-up. This definitely a trend to take into 2023.

Pink

An exciting shade on the color wheel that ruled the designer runways and popped up in the designs of almost every fashion label this year (and one of my all-time favorites, of course), Vogue acknowledges pink’s color of the year status (and so does Pantone’s 2023 Color of the Year, Viva Magenta). Pink-tinted fashion remains fabulous around the world. Pantone pinks, magnificent magenta, neon rose, and Valentino’s signature Valentino Pink PP, there was a plethora of perfectly pink fashion from spring through winter last year.

Bright, bold, happy, and fun—pink rules fashion. This color is immaculately my style and one of my most-loved shades for styling an outfit, picking accessories, shoes, or adding a pop of color to complete a look. Pink is a trend to try over and over again.

Merci, 2022! We are looking forward to all the exciting fashion trends 2023 will bring!
