Dance can’t solve all of your problems, but it gives temporary relief from the stress or anxiety you might be experiencing. Moving your body helps you release those heavy emotions. Dancing as an escape doesn’t mean running away from your problems, just finding a healthy way to cope with them.

Dance can provide a way for you to connect with your teammates, friends, or an audience. That connection is essential for making sure they feel your dance when they see it. Your choreography allows you to tell an entire story without ever saying a word. Dance isn’t limited to connecting with those around you. It can also allow you to learn new things about yourself and discover who you are.
Can You be Both?
You can absolutely be both! Or you can be one today, and the next tomorrow! That is the best part about being a dancer: everything is flexible. Some days, you might feel like you need to escape the world, and others, you feel like you need to connect with someone or something. It is okay for your “why” to change with you as you evolve and develop as a dancer.

Knowing why you dance can help you choose opportunities, auditions, and even music that feel right to you. You will feel more fulfilled and confident when you know your purpose. Just know, whether dancing is your getaway or your reason for staying grounded, you shine regardless of your reason to dance.
