It’s that time of the year again. Your days are all late-night study sessions, running on a few hours of sleep, and just wanting finals to be over. But then once you are done, it’s summer! But the best summers don’t just happen overnight. They are created and thought out.
Romanticize the End of Finals (Yes, Even the Stressful Part)
Before we can even talk about summer, we have to talk about the now (boring, I know). Finals season can get stressful and overwhelming, but what if we looked at it from a different perspective? What if instead of looking at it as just something you have to get done, you try to romanticize it a little?
Go outside and study in the sunshine with a fun drink, or find a new study spot around school to switch it up. Make a cute and color-coded study guide to make it more visually appealing. Turn your study breaks into fun dance parties. Because honestly? There’s something kind of powerful about pushing through a hard season and knowing you’re about to be free of all the stress.
Make a “Main Character” Summer Vision
It is important to make plans because if you don’t, then you will most likely end up scrolling on TikTok for hours. So, instead of wasting your time, create a vision of what you want. What kind of dancer do you want to become? What kind of memories do you want to create? Think of what vibe you want your summer to be. Is it soft and peaceful? Or a fun and chaotic every day with your besties type of vibe? Write it down and make a Pinterest board to stay inspired.
Stay Dancing (but Make it FUN Again)
After finishing finals and dealing with a long competitive season, it is normal to feel a bit burnt out. So you need to find a way to make summer dancing feel different and more fun again. Try taking some dance classes in styles that you normally wouldn’t. Have fun dance parties in your room where there is no pressure to be perfect. Learn some TikTok dances just for fun (because dancing for fun is just as important).
Create a Summer Routine that Actually Feels Good
Summer is about not having that strict schedule, like when school is in session. But having some sort of structure or routine will help maintain a sense of normalcy (and keep you from bedrotting the summer away). Things to include could be a morning walk, journaling, watching the sunset, or just planning daily hangouts with friends.
Give Your Brain a BREAK After Finals
You finished finals! That is already an accomplishment. So don’t feel bad if you don’t want to be productive right away or if you need to sleep more than usual. Your brain needs this time to rest and recover, and there is nothing wrong with that.
