Music touches so many aspects of our lives. Dancing to your favorite song while you get ready, jamming out in the car, and creating powerful dance performances are just a few ways music allows each of us to express ourselves.

For all the music does for each individual it touches, it is also a universal language for communicating with others. Across history, music has solidified itself as an undeniable global outlet for expression. This is why MusiCares, a nonprofit founded by the Recording Academy, strives to bring health, mental health, and human services (like housing, transportation, and career support) to the music community.

MusiCares is active year-round, but on April 25, they host a day of global activism, The Day That Music Cares, encouraging everyone to dive deep into their communities to provide support and build connections. In 2023, U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy issued an advisory that named loneliness and isolation a public health crisis. In response, The Day That Music Cares encourages music fans and professionals to weave themselves into their communities.

This year, MusiCares wants to increase the impact of The Day That Music Cares, and they’re asking you to pledge your support for YOUR community. By picking up litter, donating your time to local organizations, or participating in initiatives that can brighten your community, you can provide support that makes a difference.

April is Global Volunteer Month, and you can get involved by pledging to volunteer on April 25. You can visit thedaythatmusiccares.com to sign the pledge and get ideas for sharing your time and passion with those around you! In 2024, more than 2,500 people participated. Will you add your name and help them break the record?
