Let’s be real. Being a dancer is no easy feat. It takes lots of energy and hard work, and it comes with its fair share of struggles. That is why it can make such a big difference when a dancer feels they are getting the recognition and support they deserve. This is where YOU come in! We all perform and dance better when we have someone in our corner, and you can be that person for your fellow dancers.

Keep it Genuine

The best way to make someone smile and feel more confident is to give them small confidence boosts with compliments. Notice the small things that might mean a lot to them and acknowledge them! Did your teammate finally nail her headspring? Tell her. Did you see someone do a perfect leg turn? Those are hard, let her know that she rocked it. Did you see someone being kind and helpful? If you think someone is doing their best, let them know.

Use Your Voice

Have you ever had a teammate who always loudly cheers you on? It made you feel good, right? You can do the same for someone else! Make some noise to show your friends you’re proud of them. Clap when they finish a routine, or say “Get it, girl!” after they nail their turn sequence. It might feel like you are being a bit extra sometimes, but it will always pay off when you see the smile on their face.

Encouragement Off the Dance Floor

While encouragement on the dance floor is amazing, don’t forget you can be just as supportive outside of class. Leave positive and encouraging notes in your teammates’ lockers or around the studio for them to read. If you know someone who has a performance coming up that they are nervous about, text them something motivating and encouraging. After a team performance, post a pic and tag them to say how proud you are of them.

Get Everyone Involved

You’re a team, so amplify the good vibes by getting everyone involved! If you want to keep it light-hearted, make a team group chat to send funny memes to make each other laugh. To keep everyone motivated, make a public playlist everyone can add their best hype songs to!

Hyping your teammate will never take away from your own time in the spotlight. When one person on your team shines, so does everyone else! Don’t be afraid to be loud or extra. It’s good to be known as someone who always cheers everyone on.
