A new musical is in the works, and it’s a Jazz Age classic. Florence Welch of Florence + the Machine is currently part of a project adapting F. Scott Fitzgerald’s best-known novel for the stage. The musical is officially called Gatsby (originally promoted as The Great Gatsby, A New Musical).

The project was announced in 2021 after The Great Gatsby entered the public domain, opening the story up to creative adaptations of all kinds. It will be interesting to see how the creative team behind Gatsby brings beloved characters like Nick, Gatsby, and Daisy to life while bringing the story forward for modern audiences.

Gatsby is under Tony-winning director Rachel Chavkin (Hadestown) with music by Florence Welch and Thomas Bartlett, lyrics by Florence, a book by Martyna Majok, and choreography by Sonya Tayeh (Moulin Rouge!). The show is set to make its regional debut at the American Repertory Theater in 2024.

Casting and specific production dates have not been announced.
