There is an expectation each new year that you need to become a totally different person overnight. This couldn’t be further from the truth! It is all about having that fresh start to do whatever you choose to do with it. Getting refreshed for the New Year means letting go of any drama, things weighing you down, and negativity. It is about putting your best foot forward to set yourself up for success this year!
Let’s check off some New Year’s accomplishments that will help you stay your best you.
Declutter Your Dance Space
Start in the areas where you spend the most time, your dance space and your bedroom. You can take a whole-room approach or think small, focusing on your dance bag or nightstand. Create a donation bin for old shoes, clothes that don’t fit anymore, and anything else cluttering your space that you don’t reach for on a regular basis. Organizing your dance space and gear will have you feeling organized and ready for dance practice. Our minds tend to match up with how our space feels, so a clean and organized space equals an organized mind.
Gentle Body Reset
After taking some time off, it is important to ease back into your routine. Focus on slow and gentle movements such as stretching, yoga, and simple workouts. Think of things that help you feel calm and relaxed, rather than feeling like you lost all of your energy. If you want to dance, do basics at the barre, some simple across-the-floors and stretch out your splits. Pay attention to how your body is feeling so that you don’t overwork yourself. We just started a new year after all.
Reflect on the Year Without Judgement
Before we start thinking of all the things we want to accomplish this year, let’s take a moment to focus on last year. What challenged you? What was something you were proud of? What is something you want to carry into this year? It is important to reflect without beating yourself up on things that didn’t go the way you wanted. Reflection helps you understand your growth and what you want to bring into the new year.
Have a Digital Reset
Sometimes, social media can feel overwhelming. There is nothing wrong with doing a small digital reset for the new year. Clear out apps you don’t use, delete old pictures, and if something is overwhelming you, get rid of it. Your mental health comes first. Create a feed filled with people and things that inspire and motivate you.
