It’s time to assemble our holiday playlists. Now that the days are shorter and the weather is colder—and our Spotify Wrapped data is locked in—we can start dreaming of winter wonderlands and playing our favorite holiday songs on repeat. Nicollette Sullivan is leaning into the Christmas spirit with her latest release, a cover of Eartha Kitt’s “Santa Baby.”
Known for her neo-soul pop music, Nicollette leans on inspiration from 20th-century jazz and soul icons. This comes through in her take on the Christmas classic. In fact, it was looking to her role models that led Nicollette to “Santa Baby.” “I chose Santa Baby because I have always loved Eartha Kitt,” she said. “She has always been an icon to me. I also felt it suited my personality and style very well.”
Nicollette aims for vintage in a lyric music video that combines the aesthetics of live jazz performances with a cozy Christmas atmosphere. The classic black and white films and period pieces she watched with her mom and grandmother growing up come through in Nicollette’s ability to step back into the 1950s backed by a magical jazz soundtrack. None of this distracts from the classic sarcasm and played-up material-girl Christmas wishes that make “Santa Baby” a Christmas staple.
“Santa Baby” is out now. Santa, we can check a Nicollette Christmas song off our Christmas list (for this year at least)!
