It’s October! You know that means that spooky season is well underway, and one of our favorite holidays for unique fashion is nearly here. Yes, it’s finally time for Halloween!
Last year, the pandemic switched up our Halloween plans with virtual parties and costumes, but this year, we can bring Halloween back safely and in style. Our 2021 Halloween festivities and costumes are getting a major glow-up. But every look is a team effort! Whether you’re dressing up for dance class or just looking for a danceable outfit perfect for “The Monster Mash,” we have all the costume inspiration you need.
Dressing up and transforming into new characters is one of my favorite parts of this time of year, so let’s have fun with our spooky season fits. You don’t have to look too hard for the perfect haunted ensemble or chic disguise. The best place to start is always your dance closet! Let’s dive into my annual style guide for putting together showstopping Halloween looks with dancewear.
Cinderella
This princess said it best, “A dream is a wish your heart makes!” After recreating Cinderella’s look, my heart is definitely still dreaming of those glass slippers! This outfit is easy to achieve and will have you waltzing the night away.
I started this outfit with a blue leotard and tutu base. Once you find the dancewear staples you need for this look, white gloves, a choker necklace, blue satin headband, and some magical shoes are all you need to bring this look together. It’s all about the accessories! To make your “glass” slippers transform an old pair of pointe shoes with some Fairy Godmother magic (AKA rhinestones).
A Cinderella updo and a glimmery makeup look (extra highlighter, please!) seal the deal for this princess. Cinderella teaches us so many beautiful lessons like how there can be strength in kindness, not to be afraid to work for your goals, and to never give up on your dreams! Get ready for the ball and your happily ever after!

Ballerina Cowgirl
My favorite thing to be every day is, of course, a ballerina. But if we really want to show up and show off at the studio, we need to make it a fashion statement. Yeehaw all the way, dancers. This is a look that I would actually wear every day to ballet class if I could! It reminds me how much fun you can have with fashion and how it can totally make your day that much brighter when you wear something you love.
Start with your favorite color for your cowgirl hat and take your look from there. I went with pink (obviously) and matched my hat with my Showstopper pink leotard, a pink tutu, and a colored denim jacket. Don’t forget all of your ballet musts to put this cowgirl on pointe!
The wild west has never seen anything like this. Style and glam! You can’t help but smile when you wear this much pink.

Angel
Floating, flying, fashionable! This angelic fit is a classic Halloween look that can be styled in so many ways for any style of dance.
To start this look, you’ll want to pull out all of the white pieces of dancewear from your closet to match with some stunning wings. For ballet, match this costume with a beautiful platter tutu. For jazz, tap, or hip hop, get comfy with white pants or shorts. My lyrical and contemporary angels can add a white skirt!
For makeup, highlight, highlight, highlight! I went with a glowy, glittery, highlighter; a shimmer eyeshadow; and gloss. You’re going to look like a moonbeam by the end.
Add your halo—I chose to make mine out of flowers, but don’t be afraid to get creative with it—and you’re ready to fly!
