Your idea block is back at it again. You can’t come up with a new dance routine, painting or poem. But it isn’t the end of the world! Recharge your creativity with these simple steps, and get creating again!

  1. Take a Break – If you feel like your creative batteries are running on empty, don’t push yourself to the breaking point. Step back and take a moment to do something else. You can return to what you’re working on later. Even if it is only five minutes, give yourself time to refresh.
  2. Move Around – Often when we are doing something creative, we are stuck in the same place for long periods of time. Go do that same thing somewhere else! A change of scenery can do wonders for your creative process. Write on paper instead of typing on the computer. Draw outside instead of on a desk. Dance outside of the studio. It is easy to get lost in the monotony of your workspace. Changing it up once in a while can help alleviate that.
  3. Try Something New – Switch up your style for a little bit! This doesn’t mean that you should turn what you do completely on it’s head, but trying something new can help change the way you see your creative process and help with the creative block you are experiencing.
  4. Prompts – Prompts are your friend! There are prompts for pretty much every art form. Find some and try them out. Don’t burn yourself out working on them, though! The point of prompts is to give you some outside inspiration when you feel that you can’t come up with new ideas on your own.
