As we creep closer to the 2024 awards season, event organizers are busy planning the 96th Oscars®. Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel has already been locked in as the host for the evening, but the real question of the moment is “How will the show open?” Mark Ronson wants to see a Barbie-themed opening number.

Mark produced the music for Greta Gerwig’s smash hit Barbie, and he is hoping to see Barbie on stage at the Oscars. He told Variety he wants “Ryan, unicorns running across the stage, just a full Greta Gerwig-directed spectacle” at the start of the show in March. This year’s awards program featured several musical performances, so we don’t see why it couldn’t be possible.

The nominations for the Oscars won’t be announced until January 23, but after breaking box office records and dominating every possible industry from entertainment to fashion (so. many. collaborations.), it’s no doubt Barbie will have enough nominations to fill the Dreamhouse.

A Barbie medley for an opening number could bring the disco Barbies and the Kens on stage together for an ensemble performance to remember. “Dance the Night” and “I’m Just Ken” are two of the film’s most popular songs. Both are nominated for Best Song Written for Visual Media for the 2024 Grammy Awards.

The 96th Oscars will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at the Dolby® Theatre at Ovation Hollywood and will be televised live on ABC and in more than 200 territories worldwide.
