There is no better time than the new year to rest, reset, reflect, and refocus. This applies not only to your dance goals but also to your mindset. Approaching the new year with an open and positive mindset can make all the difference in your life and dance. Let’s plan to enter the new year on a positive note.

Stay Grateful

Moving onto the next big thing is always easy whether it’s the next big purchase, next turn sequence, or even just the next day. It is important to be present and grateful for what is happening right in front of you. Gratitude can help you to look for more positives in life versus the negatives.

How to do it: Journaling is an easy way to start incorporating gratitude into your life. At the end of the day or after practice, write down five things you were grateful for that day. This could be your friends, the sunshine, or a good practice. There are always positives moments even if they are a little bit harder to find.

Embrace hard times

Going through challenging times is when the most growth happens. This concept applies in and out of the dance studio. Facing challenges can be scary and uncomfortable, but those experiences will be what shape you and help you grow. Face each challenge head-on, and do your best.

How to do it: If there is something you have been putting off or avoiding because you’re scared, just go for it. Commit to it and put in the time to accomplish that goal. Just believe in yourself. You’ve got this!

Staying Intentional

Goals are a big part of life, but more important than having goals is to be intentional with them. Find a way to start getting it into your head that you will do what you are trying to accomplish. If you are trying to get your aerial, say something like, “I will do all the drills to accomplish my aerial,” and keep those phrases in your mind.

How to do it: Start saying your intentions to yourself before you do something. You can blend this with daily journaling by writing your intentions down. This way you can also visibly see them.
