Summer 2023 has been full of music from the pink explosion of Barbie The Album to Olivia Rodrigo‘s first Guts single “vampire” and so many songs in between. We love a good song of the summer debate (Who have you been streaming since June?), but Spotify released their top 20 global and U.S. summer hits so we know for sure who has been the sound of the summer.

Some familiar faces lead in both categories, but it was a global star that took over this year. American música Mexicana group Eslabon Armado topped the 2023 global chart and came in a number two in the U.S. with their song “Ella Baila Sola.” Latin artists like Bad Bunny, Yng Lvcas, Peso Pluma, and Fuerza Regida joined Eslabon Armado in creating our immaculate summer vibes.

Other much-loved hits include Taylor Swift‘s “Cruel Summer,” a 2019 favorite that got single status this year. Taylor’s Lover hit is number four globally and number three in the U.S. “Anti-Hero” also made the list coming in at number 20 in the U.S. Olivia Rodrigo released “vampire” at the end of June, and it didn’t take long for the Livies to make it a success, charting at number 15 globally and number 5 in the U.S.

It’s not surprise that some of the biggest music of the summer is all in pink! 2023 has been the year of Barbie, and the sound of our Barbie dreams is “Barbie World (with Aqua)” by Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice, and Aqua and “Dance the Night” by Dua Lipa. Whether you’re attending a girl’s night at the Dreamhouse or just letting people know that you and your besties look stunning in pink, these are the songs that we have on repeat.

How many of this summer’s hottest songs were in your ears and playlists? If you’re curious about the ones that didn’t make it into your library, Spotify put together a playlist of 30 of this summer’s best, so you can listen to everything from Jung Kook and Latto on “Seven” to Harry Styles’ instant classic “As It Was.”
