In a two-episode special event, Dancing With The Stars shook things up at the halfway point of the season to take on two themes. On Monday night, the stars entered the ballroom to tell stories from their life, and Tuesday the remaining couples were off to the prom.

Trevor and Emma

A jazz routine inspired by Trevor’s journey from struggling artist to big-time actor made this duo take on an emotionally driven routine. Len complimented their control and called this Trevor’s best dance. Derek was happy to see him in the moment and out of his head.

Shangela and Gleb

Shangela is in it to win it, and to continue wowing the judges, she performed a foxtrot inspired by a 2013 leg injury that nearly forced her to quit dancing. Derek complimented hr emotional range, and Bruno was happy to see her “softer” side. With a little feedback on her frame, the judges expressed a lot of love for this dance.

Jessie and Alan

Focusing on the year she became a mother, Jessie worked with Alan to dance the tango to her song “Blue Jeans.” Jessie sang the opening verse of her song before she and Alan stepped into a bold tango. Bruno was excited to see the strength they had in the second half of the dance (despite some mistakes in the first), and he and Carrie Ann complimented her improvements.

Gabby and Val

Gabby reflected on her work as an ICU nurse during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic for her performance Monday night. She and Val danced the foxtrot that left no questions about why she’s been doing so well this season. Carrie Ann wanted to see Gabby let go a little more to which Bruno responded, “What more could you want, Carrie Ann?” Len called their dance “effortless.”

Joseph and Daniella

For Joseph, 2022 is his most memorable year. The year that he found himself and decided on his path as actor. They danced the rumba to “My Way” by Frank Sinatra, impressing even Len. “I never expected you to come out and do your best dance this season.” Bruno was also impressed by his refinement and control.

Daniel and Britt

Is it any surprise 2019 is Daniel’s most memorable year? Celebrating the filming of CODA with a contemporary dance to “Both Sides Now” from the film. Their performance incorporated American Sign Language and even featured Daniel’s interpreter Gabriel Gomez. “As a judge, it was beautiful. It flowed. As a human being, it was just an incredibly moving performance,” Derek said after they danced. Bruno followed in the compliments saying he felt like was dancing with them.

Jordin and Brandon

Following their “best dance to date” this week, Jordin and Brandon danced to celebrate 2017, the year Jordin met her husband. Their salsa was lively and fun, and had Bruno ready to marry Jordin. “Talk about spicy!” Carrie Ann had some small arm corrections for Jordin, but she loved the dance overall.

Charli and Mark

Back in the real world after their cartoon dance last week, Charli and Mark danced a contemporary routine about 2022 and how Charli learned to keep anxiety from controlling her. A former competitive dancer, Charli was dancing comfortably in this routine Carrie Ann called “perfection.” Len agreed, “I’ve got to say this was really contemporary.”

Vinny and Koko

After a breakthrough moment last week, Vinny and Koko continued to compete for higher scores with a jazz dance inspired by 2009 and Vinny’s start on Jersey Shore. Vinny continued to come out of his shell this week, and Derek called Vinny one of his favorites to watch this season, and Bruno said he “opened up the party zone.”

Heidi and Artem

1997 was Heidi’s most memorable year. Chasing her New York City dreams and a modeling career, 1997 is when Heidi left her hometown with a fierce attitude. Their dance this week was a rumba that took them back to 90s NYC. Derek complimented her for improving from week one to now and performing a “clean and beautiful” dance.

Wayne and Witney

Continuing to be one of the top competitors on the show, Wayne worked to keep improving this week with a dance honoring his daughter’s birth in 2003. Dancing to Wayne’s “Beautiful” from the Cinderella 2 soundtrack. Bruno said this dance “captured the essence of love at first sight.” Len called the dance “sophisticated” and gave a little feedback, calling himself “picky.”

Selma and Sasha

2018 was the year of Selma’s MS diagnosis, and she wanted to celebrate it with what would become her final dance of the season. After weeks of dancing, Selma shared that she’s acquired a lot of bone trauma and has to leave the competition. The entire Season 31 cast was in tears as this couple took the floor for a waltz. The judges complimented her kindness with everyone she has worked with on the show and for her effort in the competition.

The Results

With Selma’s departure from the show, no one was sent home tonight. Everyone’s scores and votes instead were combined with Tuesday’s scores.

Next week the 10 remaining couples return to the dance floor next week on Monday at 8PM ET on Disney+ for Michael Bublé night.
