This weekend we celebrated the return of the Tony Awards with some fantastic firsts as well as major wins for big productions. After a year full of delays, the Tonys returned just as Broadway reopened to honor a small group of productions (four musicals, 10 new plays, and four revivals) that took the stage in 2020.

Along with the usual awards—which were swept by Moulin Rouge!, which took home 10 Tonys including Best Musical—many special awards were given out. Graciela Daniele was awarded a Tony for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre. Julie Halston received the Isabelle Stevenson Tony Award. Fred Gallo, Irene Gandy, Beverly Jenkins, and New Federal Theatre received the Tony Honors for Excellence in Theatre. Broadway Advocacy Coalition, David Byrne’s American Utopia, and Freestyle Love Supreme were awarded the Special Tony Awards.

As things continue to change every day, we’re sure the 75th Annual Tony Awards will be complicated next year, too, but we’re excited to see the show go on! Check out the full list of winners below.
