Your role as a dancer extends beyond your personal performances and technique. You are also an example and a leader for the younger dancers around you. Your dedication and work ethic can help you inspire other people. Being intentional about your dance career can strengthen your impact on others.

Lead by Example

Younger dancers have a tendency to copy what they see. This is where leading by example becomes a huge thing. Show them what it looks like to come to practice ready, having a good and hard-working attitude, and keeping a positive mindset. Your actions can speak louder than words, especially since they like to watch the older girls at practice.

Be There for Anyone

Good role models don’t just follow the steps. They may everyone feel comfortable talking to and confiding in them. Being kind, polite, and respectful allows younger dancers to feel they can go to you for advice and questions. You don’t have to wait for someone to approach you! When you get a chance offer to answer questions or help with choreography.

Use Mistakes as a Chance to Grow

Teach the dancers around you that mistakes are a chance for growth. Nobody is perfect, and that is okay! Show them how to handle it when they make a mistake. Handle your own mistakes with calm and with grace instead of getting upset and giving up. This will teach them how to handle a challenge and see it through. This is an invaluable skill that will carry them to success in the future.

Stay Supportive and Humble

Even if you’re the best dancer in the studio, being humble is important. While it is important to recognize your accomplishments, it is just as important to cheer on your teammates for theirs. Being supportive is a contagious feeling. The more you do it, the more it will spread around. Creating a happy, positive, and encouraging environment is one of the best things you can do.

Show your Love for Dance

Young dancers are captivated by passion and excitement in dance. Show them what it is like to take all your passion and love for the sport and include it in your dancing. Visible passion impacts your performance. Encourage them to bring it out in theirs.
