Isabella Katynski is a 14-year-old dancer from East Haven, Connecticut. She dances at Performing Art Studio BE.

“…it gave me the ability to fall absolutely in love with the feeling of performing. Dance is a passion that I know won’t ever die out.”

How does dance have a positive impact on your life?

Dance has taught me that determination goes a long way. When I was little, I was bullied. I thought that I wasn’t ever going to be good enough. But I used all of the sadness and turned it [into] determination and became the best dancer I could be. It has also taught me to think fast on your feet. But most importantly, it gave me the ability to fall absolutely in love with the feeling of performing. Dance is a passion that I know won’t ever die out.

How do you want to use dance to be a positive influence on your community?

Dance is a way of expressing yourself. Some people I know use dance as a way to tell a story that they can’t put into words. I would show that even if you can’t put how you’re feeling into words that when you are at the studio or on stage, dance is your happy place. Raising awareness through dance is more powerful then people realize and I’d love to show everyone that their voice deserves to be heard.
