Fashionistas, the fashion event of the summer is just a few weeks away. The Met Gala is quickly approaching, and we’re busy getting excited about who might walk down the carpet and what looks we’ll be talking about in the coming weeks. Read on for all the pre-Gala details!

How to Watch Met Gala 2023

The Met Gala red carpet starts May 1, 2023. The event starts at 6:00PM ET, and stars will be making their way down the carpet through the night. The Met Gala is a private event, so only Anna Wintour’s invited guests will be in attendance, but for fashion fans everywhere the red carpet will be streamed. This year, the Met Gala stream is hosted by Vogue and the stream will be on their website, InstagramFacebook, and Twitter.

The Met will also be hosting red carpet coverage on its website.

Theme

In line with the Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty exhibit that will be opening at the Met, the Met Gala theme will take inspiration from Lagerfeld’s work. When the theme was announced in the fall, the Met shared that “the exhibition is anchored by two lines: the “straight line” and the “serpentine line,” which delineate, respectively, Lagerfeld’s modernist and historicist tendencies.”

The Hosts

There’s a pretty stellar cast of hosts and chairs for this year’s Meet Gala. Penelope Cruz, Dua Lipa, Michaela Coel, and Roger Federer are all serving as co-chairs to the event. The live stream will be hosted by Emma Chamberlain (returning after hosting last year), LaLa Anthony, Derek Blasberg, and Chloe Fineman. We’re as excited to see these celebs’ looks as we are their interactions with others on the red carpet. Looking at you, Emma.

The Exhibit

Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty will examine the work and legacy of Karl Lagerfeld and open to the public May 5. The Met describes the exhibit: “Focusing on the designer’s stylistic vocabulary as expressed in aesthetic themes that appear time and again in his fashions from the 1950s to his final collection in 2019, the show will spotlight the German-born designer’s unique working methodology. Most of the approximately 150 pieces on display will be accompanied by Lagerfeld’s sketches, which underscore his complex creative process and the collaborative relationships with his premières, or head seamstresses. Lagerfeld’s fluid lines united his designs for Balmain, Patou, Chloé, Fendi, Chanel, and his eponymous label, Karl Lagerfeld, creating a diverse and prolific body of work unparalleled in the history of fashion.”
