Happy Fashion Week Season! My name is Christy Lyn and I am the lead dancewear designer of Royal Couture! September is here, and that means New York Fashion Week, London Fashion Week, Milan Fashion, and even Paris Fashion Week have been taking runways across the world by storm. For the past three weeks, I have been traveling back and forth between lovely Los Angeles, California and the center of high fashion New York City, New York all month to participate in New York Fashion Week. This is my experience – dancer to model, stage to runway!

Just when I thought my feet would get a break from the blisters and aches of my pointe shoes, I said hello to a new footwear best friend (that I would be wearing for the next days for hours on end) 6-inch stiletto high heels! (Ouch!)

Being in New York City to walk the runway for some incredible and passionate designers in front of fashion-loving crowds was truly unforgettable! Being familiar with the backstage feels as a dancer in the wings helped me feel almost in my element backstage at all the runway shows. There is nothing like that great rush of nerves and excited feelings before you step out in front of an audience whether you’re about to take the stage or strut out onto the runway!

“The future belongs to those that believe in the beauty of their dreams.”

– Eleanor Roosevelt

I feel like all the discipline I have learned during my years of ballet training helped me keep my composure and carriage at the end of the runway in front of hundreds of cameras. (Strike a pose!) But, instead of tights and rhinestones, I had the opportunity to get dressed in heels and unique, fashion-forward pieces designed by some amazing artists from Beijing, Philippines, Russia, Bulgaria, Los Angeles, and of course, New York City!

Getting styled from top to bottom (including hair and makeup done by pros!!!) was super cool considering how accustomed we are as dancers to doing it all ourselves for performances and competitions. One of my favorite designer’s footwear of choice for her look was even pointe shoes! This was a dream come true for a fashion loving ballerina like me (and a break from those stilettos)! I got to mix two of my greatest passions – ballet and fashion while modeling her exquisite designs. When dance meets New York Fashion Week and those two diverse but beautiful art forms intermix, magic is created! I never would have ever thought pointe shoes would be included in an NYFW look!

Shoot for the stars. Believe in your dreams. And, never give up on ALL the things that you are passionate about! You never know when you will get the opportunity to share your passion with the world, in more ways than one! Who knows, you might even end up on the runway of your dreams wearing the latest fashion!

Xo,

Christy Lyn
