Writing and producing songs typically isn’t a quick process. Some of our favorite artists spend months putting together a single track and even longer working on full-length albums. 14-year-old Grace VanderWaal is no exception. That’s why it was surprising to hear from Grace in a recent interview with USA Today that she had recently scrapped an entire EP of new music.

“I’m starting over,” Grace told USA Today about her current project. “I thought I finished a whole EP on tour,” she said referencing her current tour with Imagine Dragons. “But I actually decided really recently that I hate all of my songs.”

In the year since Grace released her first full-length album, Just the Beginning, she has had a lot on her plate including the Imagine Dragons tour, working on her own musical sound, and planning a future collaboration with Ingrid Michaelson. Even so, throwing out an entire EP and starting over is a major task. In the interview, Grace seemed to have an idea of where she would be taking the EP (and it only makes sense that she wants it to be absolutely perfect). “Maybe I don’t have an EP anymore. But I’ll have something to release,” she told USA Today. “I’m just so busy!”

Of course, when we will the EP, even with a new version in the works, is up in the air. After her tour, Grace will be preparing for a major acting role as the star in Stargirl based on the book by Jerry Spinelli. So, as far as new music goes, we could be waiting a while.
