Luke Landry is a 17-year-old dancer from Marrero, Louisiana. He dances at Madi Milnar Dance Academy.

“So many boys are scared to dance because of suppression due to dance’s femininity. I think boys should always be allowed to be however feminine or masculine they choose to be.”

How does dance have a positive impact on your life?

Dance is an outlet for me to express myself through movement. Dance has gotten me out of hard places and made me not take anything for granted. Dance makes me thank my body for all it does and be happy I have a body that sustains all of the long hours in the studio. Dance makes me be thankful for all the people and family members who support me through my dance career.

How do you want to use dance to be a positive influence on your community?

I want to use dance to make people see that boys can dance too. I know this can sound a little cheesy, but it’s true. So many boys are scared to dance because of suppression due to dance’s femininity. I think boys should always be allowed to be however feminine or masculine they choose to be. By being given this platform, I can spread this message in a positive light.
