On Tuesday, The Michael Jackson Estate and Columbia Live Stage made the announcement that a new musical would be coming to Broadway in 2020. The musical will be based on the life and music of King of Pop Michael Jackson.
Though the musical is currently untitled, other important and exciting details were released along with the announcement on Tuesday. Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Lynn Nottage has officially taken on the task of writing the book for the musical. The musical will be choreographed by Tony Award winner Christopher Wheeldon. Of course, with the musical’s premiere date so far away, no cast members have been chosen.
The major draw for anything to do with Michael Jackson is his incredible success as an artist and musician, so of course, the musical will feature some of Jackson’s greatest hits such as “Thriller” and “Beat It.” But those universally renowned songs aren’t the only ones that will make their way into the score. The musical’s creators plan to draw from all areas of the Michael Jackson’s decades of work.
