Back in August, Nia Sioux told us that she would be releasing music more frequently in the future. Now, Nia is back to bring us a new song to add to our Christmas playlists. She collaborated with DJ and rapper Lela B on a track called “Best Christmas” that focuses on a charitable side of the holiday. We talked with Nia about the inspirations behind the song and how she and Lela B brought it together.

“We wanted to create a holiday song with a positive and upbeat message,” Nia said about the song’s creation. She and Lela B wanted to look away from the aspects of the holiday that focus on receiving and instead sing about giving back during the holidays. This song is a must-play for the holiday, but it is also a call to action for Nia’s fans to find ways they can help out their communities. “Spreading the joy of giving through various acts of kindness should be a priority,” Nia said about the intentions of the song.

“There is no act of giving that is too small and we can all work together to make this world a better place.”

Not all artists that collaborate are friends, but Nia and Lela B are! Being close, Nia told us, made working on the song together even more rewarding.  Like Nia, Lela B is a multi-talented performer. She brought both her rapping and her DJing skills into the song. “Lela is an incredible rapper,” Nia said. “[She] brings a beat and flow to the song that I am obsessed with.”

When you listen to the track, you might notice that some classic songs also influenced the lyrics. Some of the lyrics from “Frosty the Snowman” and “Jingle Bells” made their way into the song with a little bit of altering. “Lela and I (and I’m sure most other kids) grew up singing those songs with our family, so it felt nostalgic and important to us to incorporate at least a hint of classic Christmas songs!” Nia said about adding them to the mix.

“Best Christmas is officially out on iTunes and Spotify, but we’re not done waiting. Nia is also releasing a music video for the song on December 5, 2018. The video is a bit different from everything we’ve seen from Nia so far. It follows her and Lela B around their community as they give their time and efforts to people and animals to celebrate the holidays. You’re going to want to stay tuned!
