Brooke Sause‘s new single “How Long” is out today, and it’s the gentle sound we’re looking for to ease into the weekend.

A singer-songwriter and law student, Brooke makes music while studying and going to class. Working on music and collaborating with her sister Breanna, Brooke dove into her music career with her debut song “ex that’s not my ex” in 2021 and has been steadily releasing more songs since. “It takes a lot to balance school and music, but I definitely think just having effective time management skills,” she shared about making it all happen. “I take time to prioritize the commitments based on how important and urgent it is. It’s a difficult balance but it’s worth it.” She also told us that knowing the legal side of music, from copyright to contracts, makes these different sides of her a perfect match.

A song about heartbreak and hard realizations, Brooke describes her latest release as “about being heartbroken and realizing that the person who broke your heart never loved you like you loved them. It’s about going through the memories and reanalyzing every detail and facet of the relationship, trying to pinpoint where the lies began. While reflecting, you think of all the moments and signs you ignored because you were too in love to be logical.”

Brooke takes inspiration from life and has a storytelling mindset when it comes to music. “I get my musical inspiration from a lot of different things. I like to tell stories with my music, so I am definitely inspired by Taylor Swift who is such a talented and skilled storyteller. I also draw inspiration from events happening in my life, TV shows or books that make me feel really inspired.” You can feel these influences in the lyrics of “How Long” as Brooke sings about looking for clarity post-breakup.

“How Long” is also a look into a debut EP set to come out later this year. Brooke shared with us that the project “as a whole is a journey of first love, growing up, falling out of love, and trying to figure out your life.” “How Long” is part of that journey.
