He’s back—and no, we aren’t talking about Broadway this time. Beetlejuice is headed back to the big screen with a long-awaited sequel next year. Variety shared Warner Bros. announcement that Beetlejuice 2 is officially happening.

While Michael Keaton originally brought our favorite paranormal pest to life in 1988, a sequel has been something talked about on and off for decades. Now, we’ll see what he and other favorites like goth girl Lydia Deetz have been up to over the last 30 years. While the announcement is still fresh, one thing we do already know is that Jenna Ortega will be teaming up with Tim Burton—after working with him on Wednesday—again to take on the role of Lydia’s daughter. Other cast members include Michael Keaton who will reprise his role as Beetlejuice, Winona Ryder returning as Lydia, and Justin Theroux (though we don’t know his character yet!). We’re sure there will be a whole cast of ghosts, ghouls, and undead joining them soon, though!

With such a large gap between the original work and the new one, we can’t help but wonder if the story will try to take on another tragic death à la the unfortunate fates of Barbara and Adam Maitland or will we be more immersed in how Lydia turned out after supernatural dance parties and paling around with Beetlejuice?

Beetlejuice 2 is set to hit theaters on September 6, 2024, so we’ll have until then to piece things together. Just be careful with your words. You never know what saying Beetlejuice three times might get you! (A new movie, apparently!)
